General Motorhome FAQ
Are there any size restrictions on campgrounds or parking lots?
- Most campgrounds, RV parks and RV resorts cater to smaller vehicles (especially privately owned campgrounds). If you are driving a larger "rig", it is recommended to call ahead to book a spacious site for your RV rental.
- Make sure when you are booking a campground reservation to mention how long your RV is, how wide it is with slide-outs, and how high your vehicle is. You do not want to lose your security deposit by scraping your vehicle on branches.
Is it necessary to make reservations for campgrounds?
- It is not necessary to make reservations for campgrounds, but it is recommended. Campgrounds can book up quickly during long weekends, holidays, and the summer months.
What is "boondocking" or "dry camping"?
- "Boondocking" or "dry camping" refers to camping without hook-ups. Basically you use the generator instead of electrical water hook ups. The holding tanks would be used for sewage hook-ups.
Hook-ups?
- Hook-ups are plug-ins to connect your RV to the electricity supply, water supply, and the sewage dump.
Is it difficult to hook the RV up to the hook-ups?
- No, it is easy to hook your RV up to the hook-ups and to dump and fill it. In the orientation tour before you leave the depot this will be explained to you.
What should I look for in a prospective campground?
- First of all, consider availability. It doesn't matter how great the campground is if there is no vacancy for your nights.
- Is the campground close to your vacation destination, or is it off the beaten track?
- What facilities or amenities are included for the cost of the campground?
- What hook-ups are available?
- Are they able to accommodate your motorhome size? Some campgrounds don't have large enough sites for bigger RVs. It is recommended that you inquire about size restraints ahead of time.
RV Parks? RV Resorts? Campgrounds? How do I decide what is right for me?
- Campgrounds offer basic facilities. Some campgrounds do not have hook-ups, showers, or flush toilets, however they do offer an unspoiled beauty of the outdoors that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
- RV Parks/Campgrounds are campgrounds that usually offer flush toilets, communal showers, and some kind of swimming pool, pond, or lake.
- RV Resorts are more expensive and are great for people looking for a higher end kind of camping. RV Resorts usually have a store on site, amenities such as a lounge, maybe a miniature golf course.
Facilities?
- Every campground has something different to offer. Some basic facilities offered include flush toilets and showers (although not every one offers these).
- Other facilities offered range from pools, hot tubs, laundry facilities, golf courses, dog runs, restaurants, and campground stores.
- Please inquire into your prospective campground about what facilities or amenities available.
Cost per night?
- Campgrounds cost will vary, depending on the amenities available.
What hook-ups do most RV Parks provide?
- Most RV Parks provide water, electricity, and sewage connections or dumps.
- An increasing number are providing Wi-Fi (Wireless local area network (Internet), cable, and phone hook-ups.
Is it possible to camp in the wild?
- Yes, and by using the generator every personal convenience will be yours.
- Camping in the wild means that you are not camping in a secure place. To camp in the wild is to camp at your own risk.
